A Harlequin written in by tue of the Queens of Old Skool romances and it actually didn’t make me want to throw up! The heroine is a 28 year old surgeon who doesn’t want to ride on her eminent father’s coattails so she foregoes the cushy hospital position he has readied for her, ignores her mom’s nagging over her biological clock, and takes herself off to a small town to join a small practice where she is going to get the hands-on experience she yvohne always wanted.
And she was Color me shocked. And she was written as a doctor, it wasn’t merely an empty title that was used as pretext to put her into contact with the hot doctor hero.
She was doctoring her way through sanke story like nobody’s business from childbirth assistance, to emergency surgery, to rescuing the victim of a highway crash, she did it all Like A Boss.
xance Granted she was a Mary Sue, but honestly, after all the yvonns doormats I have had to wipe snakr feet on in HPlandia in my unending quest to find a good book in a dung heap, she yvinne amazing. The hero does give punishing kisses and bruise-leaving gropes but that’s par for the course. He is seriously the best Yconne hero I have ever met. No pipe smoking, no dangling the OW in front of the heroine’s nose, no name-calling.
Maybe it’s all the pipe smoking that makes YW’s other heroes such assholes? I really liked this one. It felt ahead of its time. The author wrote the female protagonist in a plausible, modern way. She is not the hellion, man-hating, careerist with a chip on her shoulder that so many HP writers cartoonishly compare to the revered, traditional, virginal homemaker type.
Yes, she enjoys her career immensely and she is good at it but she wants a husband and family too. It’s just that she refuses to settle for anything less than a man she loves. When the hero makes snakf clear he is only interested in a no-strings affair, she holds strong and resists her traitorous body and her heart. It was clear he fell hard for her very early on and he was just deluding himself that he could have just another affair with her. He really cared about her and couldn’t help showing how much even behind all the cynical whittao.
I really did believe that he genuinely fell in love with her, realized that his life would be meaningless without her, but more importantly, he respected her as an equal, and considered their marriage would be an amazing snske exhilarating partnership, not a restrictive cage.
I never thought I would enjoy an YW book and this has restored my faith that I can perhaps find some very enjoyable reads amongst all her trainwrecks featuring homicidal, sadistic abusers and the dimwits who love them. Heroine has joined a practice in the back of beyond to challenge herself. Instead, her biggest challenge is putting up with the hero, a doctor who has loving on his mind, but not marriage. There are a lot of other interesting things going on in the story with medical cases and the heroine bringing an orphan for visit in hopes that a childless couple will be happy.
It’s all very sweet. Hero was As bookjunkie said in her review, this is a five star heroine with a two star hero.
Hero was besotted and too stupid and scared to know when he was in love. Now that yvonhe figured out what they mean to each other, I can believe their HEA. View all 3 comments. Apr 13, bookjunkie rated it liked it Shelves: No sense in wasting time, I guess!
Dance of the Snake (Harlequin Presents #) by Yvonne Whittal
Spotted Naksed’s review 2 hours ago and looked it up immediately. Quick, good little read, and it’s always a pleasure to have a heroine who is in a highly skilled field, takes her job seriously, and is good at it! And the whole time they’re flying, Dane is all, I’m about to die. Are you really a pilot. Do you know what t No sense in wasting time, I guess! Do you know what to do ov an airplane.
Women can’t be pilots, like a huge baby. I couldn’t figure him out. Was he really as chauvinistic as all his comments made dnake sound?
Cos he said some pretty rude, stupid stuff about women. I loved how everytime he scornfully told Jess she sounded like a woman, she’d calmly say, Good, cos I am one.
Seriously, like did he wanna shame her for being female vance what. So basically it was a 5-star heroine with a 2-star Hero.

Other than physical appearance and sex appeal I could not figure out what there was that attracted the heroine to the hero. His sake was aggressive and whkttal.
