This is the novel that launched Robin Schone as a great writer blending historical and erotica seamlessly If it were, I wouldn’t have given this author a chance. I was intrigued by the book’s description of time travel, I’m always fascinated with how characters deal with the century they’re in, which is very different from what they’re used to.
Not only did the heroine Elaine time travel, she also traveled from one country to another. She’s fr This is the novel that launched Robin Schone as a great writer blending historical and erotica seamlessly She’s from Chicago then she was transported to Dorset, and since this author writes in riddles, I didn’t quite catch when exactly she occupied Morrigan’s body.
The pace was very slow, and the heroine didn’t even use that time to get accustomed to her surroundings. I understand the shock and impossibility of it, but Elaine didn’t handle it well. I’ve read several novels with time travel in it and most of the characters adapted well to their new environment, even took it as an adventure.
Of course there were a lot of questions about the body’s identity. Elaine should’ve just acted as herself – to hell with the servants. She’s described as a plump woman with a voracious sexual appetite, unsatisfied by her dispassionate husband. Charles shares the same predicament and early on it seemed they’re perfect for each other.
Unfortunately, I know where the story is going but the plot was weak, so were the characters. I can’t deny the quality erotica but that’s not enough.

I hated that Elaine was weak until the end, that even though Charles sensed something was wrong, he deduced that Morrigan Elaine is mad. I also hated the antagonists – they’re really classic and for once, Elaine didn’t get the upper hand, most of the time she’s a doormat.
One could skip this, it’s not one of those compelling reads. The things that stopped this being a “totally dire” rating were – – There was some interesting genuine evil going on view spoiler [ in the person of Morrigan’s uncle, and later or maybe at the same time, it was hard to tell via Morrigan herself. The scene where the uncle’s body dies and Morrigan tries to escape into Elaine had potential hide spoiler ]. The sex was a bit ho-hum.
My main complaint is that the tone of the book is completely inconsistent. It lurches from An The things that stopped this being a “totally dire” rating were – – There was some interesting genuine evil going on view spoiler [ in the person of Morrigan’s uncle, and later or maybe at the same time, it achone hard to tell via Morrigan herself.

An overloaded, jumble-sale of a plot might have been redeemed by its characters, but Elaine poor Elaine is towed along in the wake unable to decide whether she is going to cow C19th England I think this is set in England by virtue of her good American common sense, or scuttle away as a victim of her awful family. And don’t get me started on Charles – misogynistic, domineering, but curiously willing to allow his wife to wear the same unwashed dress for a year. No, sorry, on reflection, this is back to just a one star read.
Ho letto quasi pagine e di erotismo ne ho visto poco, poco interessante e mal raccontato. Qualche strusciatina, niente di che. Io non ce la posso fare a finirlo. Se volete provare voi…. I think the one-star review is a little high for my opinion on this book.
There was so little in the way of positives that I am actually wondering how I made it through the whole novel. I loved the whole premise, and I am really disappointed that the characters let down such a unique plot. I love the idea of a modern day lady being sent back to the Regency era. If I could write a book, that would be the plot; so I was thrilled when I found this book at the back of the shelf with it already done. The main plot was okay, but there were no diversions, no subplots or other interests and so it became very monotonous and repetitive.
Charles wasn’t that likeable as a leading hero, and so I found it difficult to support the relationship between him and Elaine. There were some instances where he made my heart go a-flutter and then others when I wanted to punch his handsome face through a wall.
When he took Elaine’s breakfast off of her to ‘save’ the horse, and gave her a roll instead.
Or when he kept calling her insane and didn’t believe a word she said, even when the truth seemed obvious. Elaine was the biggest disappointment in this novel. Sassy modern day Elaine who has yearned for a fantasy man to break schond sexless-rut of a marriage and free her sexual side. But in writing she turned into an absolute prude.
El despertar del amor : Robin Schone :
She read modern books about how to entice a man and how to perform all sorts of sexual acts, and yet when Charles was in the room, she wouldn’t talk, kept running away and being entirely too prudish for how she was originally described.
You’ve woken up in the Regency era, with an honest-to-god regency Lord at your beck and call and you lock him out?! Are you insane woman??! Too much of the novel was Elaine refusing to speak, or refusing to cuckold her modern day husband I felt that there was a lack of dialogue between the leading couple, which made it difficult to get to know them or to see their connection outside of the sexual relationship. The final chapter was so horrendous to read, became so laden with information and supposed twists that I literally had to wade my way through and then fill in the blanks with my own mind.
There was a unicorn in my version of events Didn’t like it at all, and I’m really disappointed that the book didn’t deliver on the unique plot. Unfortunately not like her other books! I was very disappointed with this purchase. All I can say is luckily this was not the first book of Robin Schone’s that I have read, as it would never have inspired me to read more by this author and I would have missed out on her gem of a book in “A Lady’s Pleasure”.

Unlike the latter, I found this book to be very, very slow and quite repe Unfortunately not like her other books!
Unlike the latter, I svhone this book to be very, very slow and quite repetitive, so much so that from quite early in the desperatr I just couldn’t bring myself to carry on reading it. I did however skim through parts of it to see if perhaps the book would redeem itself and motivate me to read it, but it just confirmed aor first impression!
I have however just downloaded “The Lady’s Tutor” and hope that this will be another one of her gems. E ancora non ho capito il finale Spoilers I swear it wasn’t the historical background that made me rate de, book just one star! It could be that I’m completely stupid, but at the end of the book I was there asking myself “so, that Morrigan bitch was always her uncle?
And what about Charles? Dec 31, Sara rated it did not like it. Respecto a esta historia: I adored every book by this author until I read this one.
