I am still a newbie but I am now finally beating some players who are rated higher than me This book is the not the only reason I have gotten better. I have been studying plenty of tactics and playing through the games of Capablanca Chernev’s book on Capa’s endings. The fact remains that I am now winning games I used to lose.
Studying the endgame not only gives you the ability to play the endgame it also helps you to realize the intrinsic kinetic energy of the pieces. I know that sounds weird but it is faxts. I know a lot of people are very high on Silman’s book and I am sure it is great.
After looking at it I just couldn’t bring myself to purchase it because I didn’t like the idea of only studying the endgames “required” of my level. I think that defeats the purpose of favts the Endgame. Just facgs Facts lays out all the different types of endgames with great diagrams and very clear and concise prose.
I plan to read this book again!!
Just the Facts: Winning Endgame Knowledge in One Volume by Lev Alburt
So I have to eat some crow! It is a marvelous book I really love this product. I needed to improve my endgame so I asked a few grandmasters on the Internet Chess Club. This was one of the books recommended by most of them. aburt

While I’m not the best player in the opening or middle game in my club, I’ve become the best endgame player by far. Well organized, well written. Am enjoying it immensely.
Plenty of tips and lots of examples.
This is one of the best instructional chess books I have read on any phase of the game. It makes use of hundreds of diagrams so that the reader rarely has to recreate the position on the chess board. Also, the methodology Alburt uses, pattern recognition for essential positions, provides the reader with a solid and digestable endgame foundation.
The multicolor format is also used to good effect. Alburt emphasizes important positions and concepts with blue chess boards and blue stand alone paragraphs. After reading the section on rook endgames, I came away with the clearest understanding of Lucena’s Position I have had from any chess book, I have read.
Additionally, because of the pattern recognition format, this book also is a useful tournament review tool.
In terms of difficulty, the book is geared jist the low to mid-level club player, who knows the basic checkmates, but doesn’t have a solid endgame footing. En savoir plus sur Amazon Prime.
