Por otro parte, las obras del autor Horacio Quiroga no son exactamente iguales. For nine nightmarish days Quiroga nursed her as she slowly and painfully died Yale 1.
Yet his tone is never warm or intimate, never confessional, rarely personal in any degree. Quiroga’s characteristic impersonality serves ideally to intensify the impact of the narrative. Some of the bitterness he knew in his relationships as husband and father can be perceived in The Decapitated Chicken, but here again the basic emotion is objectified and now creatively translated into gloomy imaginings.
The Decapitated Chicken and the failed marriages of Horacio Quiroga In literature, many authors are creators of worlds which are equal to an earthly paradise. They use their creativity to construct with their ohracio various castles, roses, princesses or l object of beauty their dreams command.
The heroes of such stories always save the day, and all is of happiness and eternal love at the end. On the other hand, the works of author Horacio Quiroga aren’t quite the same. Author and creation united in the lines Tumba Abierta 1. According to Beardsell, “if ever there was an author whose fiction cannot be separated from his life, it is Quiroga For Quiroga, “reality is much more brutal than fantasy Fiction.

As Schade says, it is valid that galllna fifty-eight-year span of [Quiroga’s] lifetime was crammed with His mother remarried, but a few years after the wedding, his stepfather committed suicide. In Quiroga shot and killed his best friend, Hodacio Ferrando, by accident Danielson Quiroga’s first marriage also resulted in death, when “in a desperate move, [his wife] Ana Maria took a dose of slow-acting poison. Old and in failing health, he gzllina that he was left completely alone at the end of a life full of suffering, and committed suicide on February 19th, In the tragic tale The Decapitated Chicken, there are several symbols that show, as a reflection of the author’s own love life, the toxic relationship of a failing marriage.
As in the majority of Quiroga’s works, he presents his story in a manner that is quirooga and apathetic towards the characters. In such lugubrious surroundings, the stability of the marriage slowly dissolves and the tragedy of death begins.
Although the plot of the story is relatively simple, it has great implications when compared to Quiroga’s life. In The Decapitated Chicken, a married couple aspires to create qukroga manifestation of their great love: Unfortunately, segollada a year and a half the baby that had “completed their happiness” falls ill and becomes retarded.
The parents respond to this tragedy with “new flames of aching love” in hopes of another son, but once again the same tragedy occurs. They despair and begin to blame each other, but try their luck once again. Twins are born and they, too, become retarded. At this point, the desperation, hopelessness and hostility between the couple begins to rise. When a healthy daughter is finally born, the parents are ecstatic.
They ignore their four retarded sons and direct all their attention and care to Bertita, their precious lq girl. The day she celebrates her fourth birthday, the child becomes feverish. This is the boiling point: Fearful that their dear daughter, the object of such affection, is at death’s door, they fight gallna night over who is to blame. The next morning the parents wish to go out with their daughter, and command that the servant kill a hen for lunch.
The retarded sons watch with fascination until the mother comes and throws them out of the kitchen in a rather cruel manner.
At the end of the story, which is not for the weak of heart, the retarded sons drag their sister into the kitchen and kill her in the same manner as the hen. In this story, the retardation of the sons and the illness of the daughter seem to serve as themes which represent the precarious state of the relationship of the parents. Even though it initially has good horqcio as a symbol of the strength of their marriage, their parenthood eventually begins the rift between the couple instead of intensifying their marriage relations.
The devastation and fear evident when quirofa first son, the manifestation of their love, becomes retarded begins the downfall into sentiments of despair, hatred and resentment which had already been present in the degollsda of the parents. After the retardation of the second son: Their blood, their love had been cursed!
Their love, above all! She was 22 and he was 28, and all their passionate tenderness had not managed to create a single atom of normal life. They no longer asked for beauty or intelligence as they had for the firstborn, only a son, a son like any other!
The hope of creating a healthy son slowly changes into resentment and apprehension. With Bertita, the parents believed they had overcome their problems. They “focused all their contentment on their daughter, who took advantage of their indulgence to become spoiled and very badly behaved.
When their precious daughter becomes sick, they lose their confidence and once again begin to fight. The contrast between the treatment of the sons and that of the daughter is very important in this story. It is clear that the parents spoil their dear Bertita, the healthy and beautiful child, while quroga their retarded sons, the “monsters” that represent the infirmity of their love, and treat them cruelly.
The pair wishes nothing more than to “avoid that horrible galina In this gory tale, Quiroga uses a lot of foreshadowing. He describes the “certain imitative quality” of the sons’ behavior, which later will be manifested in violence.
He also describes the fears of the parents: Their daughter’s least indisposition now unleashed – because of the terror of losing her – the bitterness created by their unsound progeny. Bile had accumulated for so long that the distended viscera spilled venom at the slightest touch. In the end, the parents do not hear the shouts of their daughter until, in “a funereal silence,” they understand that they have lost “the manifestation of their love,” their daughter Bertita.
Quiroga slowly develops the suspense and augments the tension between the pair until the end of the story. Quiroga carefully chooses his words to maximize the effectiveness of his message in this exploration of a failing marriage.
Everything is described with words of horror and lugubriousness: The mother “had seen the blood-covered floor. She could only utter a hoarse cry, throw her arms above her head and, leaning against her husband, sink slowly to the floor. The Poe of Latin America.
